Smile! February is National Children’s Dental Health Month.
A healthy set of teeth allows many to exude confidence. Yet, not everyone has a reason to smile.
According to the American Dental Association, tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in children in the United States. The Minnesota Department of Health says 55% of all third graders have cavities or other forms of oral ailments. MDH says 18% of third graders have untreated tooth decay.
Good oral health begins in the home. When healthy habits are encouraged, the cycle of dental health disease can be broken. Medical experts say parents should establish strong tooth-brushing habits for the entire family, promote good nutrition, and make regular visits to the dentist.
